Nolan - Weeks 2 and 3

The past two weeks have flown by and Nolan is now three weeks old. His little life still consists only of sleeping, dirtying his diaper, eating, crying, and a little happy awake time. He is still nursing every two hours during the day and eats every two to four hours at night. Over the past couple of weeks he has either done really well sleeping and settling down at night or VERY poorly. It seems like he has a few good nights and then a few bad nights and then a few good nights and then a few bad nights. He usually goes down at about 8:00-8:30 and then is awake for the day between 7:00-7:30. He takes two good naps where I put him swaddled in the pack n play; one 2-2.5 hour nap in the morning and one 2-2.5 hour nap in the afternoon. Then he takes lots of cat naps in between.

So far he is not super happy to be awake during the morning and afternoon hours and cries quite a bit during this time if he is awake, although he is starting to be consoled with a pacifier. He seems to have most of his happy awake time in the evening right before bed and is very alert and enjoys having you talk to him directly in his face then. Nolan seems to dislike being put into his car seat and riding in the car. So far he cries quite a bit in the car too. He is very bothered by poopy diapers and lets us know very loudly that he needs to be changed. He has starting spitting up quite a bit and seems fairly bothered by that as well. He loves to be comforted by his big sister, Julianne, and calms down right away when she holds him. She tends to know exactly what to do to comfort him and is confident in caring for him. I'm hoping in the next few weeks that he will become more acquainted with life on the outside and will become more happy. We are so thankful for him and are enjoying these special newborn days.
