Nine Month Check Up

Morgan just had his nine month check up last week when he was about 9.5 months old. His stats were as follows: Length- 28in(25%), Weight- 18lbs(10%), and Head Circumference- 17.5in(25%). As you can tell he's not the biggest boy, but he is healthy and developing in all the right ways. He is still crawling everywhere and pulling up on everything. A couple of times in the past week he has stood for just a couple of seconds without holding onto anything, but is usually not very interested in standing or even walking because he can get everywhere he needs to by crawling. His newest interest is climbing the stairs and he does it every chance he gets. I try to keep tabs on him enough to stay right behind him when he climbs the stairs, but there have been a few times where he has gotten halfway up the stairs before I realize where he is. So far he is pretty agile at climbing them, but I'm just waiting for the first fall. His favorite room to play in is the bathroom. One day last week, I heard him shrieking with happiness in the bathroom followed by some splashing sounds. He was playing in "clean" toilet water and was wet up to his elbows. Another day last week I went in to check on him and he had unrolled the entire roll of toilet paper and had taken a bite of it.

Other than toilet paper, Morgan's diet consists mainly of table foods now. He still does get one to two servings of pureed foods per day, but usually eats what we're eating for most meals. He has had banana chunks, vegetable soup, chicken, peas, green beans, carrots, apples, cabbage, pineapple, eggs, turkey sausage, pretzels, cheerios, crackers, rice, spinach and avacado. The other day as we celebrated a friend's birthday I gave him his first taste of chocolate cake and he loved it. In the past week he has begun signing for "more" food. He waves one of his hands in front of him to show this. He still is not very good with a cup, but loves to chew on and play with his cup. He is still nursing pretty well, although is very distracted if he's wide awake and refuses to nurse very long. He nurses five times a day (when he wakes up, after his morning nap, before his afternoon nap, before dinner, and right before bedtime). He is still taking two good naps a day (one usually around 9:30 and the other around 2:00). In the past couple of weeks he has moved rooms in the nursery at church from the baby room to the mobile one year old room. Our baby is growing up much too quickly and we're trying to enjoy this very sweet stage he is in right now.
