Morgan - 7 Months

Morgan has been seven months for almost a week and yesterday I noticed that his first tooth popped through on the bottom. He has been chewing on everything for months now and finally has something to show for it. The poor guy also has his third ear infection in three months and has now been scheduled to get tubes in his ears at the beginning of December. He is by far the youngest our children have been to get tubes, but it seems like with our family history and now his history, he's going to need them eventually, so we might as well get them before the deductible year ends. I'm not sure if teething or ear pain have been causing him to wake up still at night, but he is still waking up once or twice to feed at night. For the most part he goes right back to sleep after nursing, but there have been a couple of times in the past week that he is wide awake at 3:30 a.m. He will eventually go back to sleep, but for whatever reason it takes him awhile. He still seems to enjoy being swaddled and generally sleeps swaddled on his tummy. I lay him on his back but he usually flips over. I know he's a little old to be swaddled, but I tried unswaddling him for a couple of naps this week and all he wanted to do was move around in his crib rather than sleep. I keep telling myself that he won't go off to college not sleeping through the night!

I'm a little surprised that he hasn't started crawling with purpose yet, but I am not at all disappointed that he hasn't begun. He will move his knee and hands a couple of times forward but when he really wants something in front of him he just gets in the crawling position and lunges forward as far as he can until he gets what he wants. He also can scoot backwards, pivot on his tummy, and roll to get just about anything. I have found him many times backed into a corner of the room, crying to get my attention to move him. He's backed himself under a chair and under a bed as well.

Morgan is still nursing about every 3-4 hours, generally closer to 3 hours, but continues to be a very distracted nurser. Unless he is very tired, he will suck a little then look at me and talk, suck a little then look at me and talk, over and over again. He has also started growling and looking around to see who heard him and is paying attention to him. He has become much more interested in solid food the past week and wants to eat whenever we are sitting down to a meal. So far he has tried sweet potatoes, green beans, apples, bananas, pears, oatmeal and rice cereal.
