Morgan - 1 Month

Saturday was a big day for Morgan. He not only turned one month old, but it was also Cinco de Mayo and Derby day. He was so excited for this day that he woke up bright and early at 6 a.m. It seems he is taking after his oldest sister with early wake ups and is perfectly content, but is just ready to be awake and out of bed. Once I can force myself to get out of bed, it's actually a really sweet time that I can spend alone him since that doesn't happen too much with older sisters around. Although Morgan is still sleeping a lot during the day, he is starting to fall into the routine of a morning and afternoon nap, with a few more naps in between. So after Morgan took a good morning nap, he had a bath. Bathtime is a very calm and happy time for our little guy. He absolutely loves baths and doesn't cry at all until he's taken out of the water. After a nap in the afternoon we went over to David and Blair Balzer's house for a low key Derby party. Blair and I made a yummy dinner of Hot Browns (texas toast, turkey, tomatoes, a cheese gravy, more cheese on top, and bacon- definitely not healthy, but oh so yummy) and Garland of Roses salad (spinach, strawberries, motzarella cheese, and Blair's famous dressing). When we watched the Derby race we all picked the horse we thought would win. Most of us picked our horse based on the name of the horse, the color of the horse, or the color of the jockey's silks. I don't think any of us picked the winning horse, but we sure did have fun cheering the horses on. After dinner, we enjoyed our Derby dessert of Derby pie and Blue Bell Derby Pie ice cream. Yummy! We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends to spend time with.

Today we went to Morgan's One Month well check at his pediatrician. His stats were as follows: Length - 21.25 in (15%), Weight - 9 lbs 10 oz (25%), Head Circumference - 15 in (25%). The doctor was very pleased with his weight gain and although he spits up quite a bit still it doesn't seem to be impacting him too much. The past month Morgan has been a pretty fussy baby when he's awake, but in the past few days we've noticed that he is having more happy awake time. He enjoys laying on a blanket and looking at the light coming in the window. He seem to enjoy tummy time and has already learned to roll from his tummy to his back. One day I put him on his tummy with his arms in front of him and he rolled to his back about 10 times in a row. When I would flip him back over to his tummy he would immediately turn over again. The girls thought this was hilarious. When he does get fussy he loves to be wrapped in one of his big blankets and held snugly while he sucks on his pacifier. Morgan also finds great comfort in being held by Julianne, who adores holding her little brother. She is very patient and gentle with him and rarely gets flustered by his crying. When she holds him he gets calm and usually goes to sleep. She holds him once or twice a day and will hold him for 30 minutes or more, which allows mommy to get some things done. Morgan likes being held by Lorelei, but mostly is entranced by watching this big sister. Morgan continues to be a great sleeper. He has been going 4-5 hours between his first nighttime feeding and then 3-4 hours between other nighttime feedings. He almost always goes right back to sleep after these feedings. We have truly enjoyed this first month with our sweet boy.
