Trip to Colorado: Estes Park

After our trip to Colorado Springs we made a quick trip to Estes Park and had a great time enjoying beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park.

Thursday: We got to Estes Park around noon and stopped at the Visitor's Center. While we were there we saw a group of elk on a nearby golf course. Julianne especially loved getting to see a baby elk. After getting lunch we took a drive into Rocky Mountain National Park and drove up Trail Ridge Road which leads up to a point that is over 12,000 feet above sea level. We went up so high that there were no trees growing and we were within 30 feet of snow. It was beautiful. Julianne enjoyed getting out at various stops and climbing on the rocks. She showed no fear and would have climbed to some very dangerous places if we would have let her. After our drive we checked into our cabin and then went to a nearby playground so the girls could get out of the car and play. We went to dinner at a restaurant named Grubsteak and then went to a grocery store to pick up things for breakfast in the morning.

Friday: When we woke up it there was frost on the ground, so we had a warm and yummy pancake breakfast in our cozy cabin. After getting ready we drove around Rocky Mountain National Park and went to a place called Bear Lake. It was a beautiful lake that had a trail around it, so we took a leisurely hike. After our drive, we made a quick trip into downtown Estes Park to look at a couple of shops then we headed back to Denver.

We enjoyed another meal with our gracious hosts, Don and Lois, and then headed to the airport bright and early Saturday morning.
