Trip to Colorado: Colorado Springs

After spending time with family in Denver we took a short drive south to Colorado Springs to visit the family of some of our good friends. Chip and Claire are sweet friends of ours and Chip's parents live in a beautiful home near Garden of the Gods, so we decided to take a short trip to visit them.

Tuesday: We arrived in Colorado Springs (actually Manitou Springs which is a suburb of Colorado Springs) at around lunch time, so after lunch with Stephen and Jeanne Faulkner we drove and walked around Garden of the Gods. This is practically their backyard so they showed us all around. The girls enjoyed getting out and walking and we even got to see some people climbing the rocks. After this we went to downtown Manitou Springs and walked around. There were adorable shops and even a playground that the girls enjoyed playing on. Throughout the town there are springs, in which you can taste the water. Julianne was not impressed with the seltzer tasting water, but Lorelei loved it. After returning to Stephen and Jeanne's house we spotted several deer in their backyard and had a delicious dinner.

Wednesday: After a slow morning at the Faulkner's home, we drove to the Cheyenne Canyon and went on a short hike to view some waterfalls. Although the hike was short (1/3 of a mile), it was steep (200 ft. elevation change). We enjoyed the beautiful scenery, but were tired by the end. Stephen and Jeanne took us on a driving tour of some of Colorado Springs and then we stopped at the Broadmoor (a famous, large hotel). We got out and walked around a bit and then had a delicious lunch at a cafe in the hotel. After thanking our gracious hosts and tour guides, Stephen and Jeanne, we drove back to Denver in just enough time to have a dinner with more family at Stephen's cousin's house.
