4th of July 2011

This is one day late, but Happy 4th of July! We had a wonderful weekend celebrating. On Friday night when the girls and I got home from St.Louis some of our sweet neighbors invited us outside to watch their fireworks. Julianne and the rest of the kids did some sparklers then the grownups set off a couple of fireworks until one of the fireworks malfunctioned, exploding toward us instead of upwards. Thankfully most of us escaped danger, except for one of our neighbor's daughter who received several burns. Needless to say, that was the end of the fireworks for the evening. On Saturday evening we went to the pool so Julianne could show daddy her new swimming skills. We had a lot of fun. On Sunday night we went to the City of Douglas Hill's fireworks. It was supposed to start at 9:45p.m. which was a little late for our girls, but it actually started about 20 minutes early because a storm was moving in. Julianne thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks, but Lorelei was a bit nervous watching them. She had a death grip on me and when I would ask her if she liked the fireworks, she would shake her head and say, "No." She did enjoy clapping for the fireworks though. On Monday, we went over to Mr. John and Mrs. Sarah's house for a cook out. Julianne and Lorelei had a great time playing in their backyard on the swings, the slide, the sand table, and in the sprinkler. Julianne spent most of her time on the swing and Lorelei spent most of her time at the sand table. When we got home that night we had to give Lorelei a bath and it took about 10 minutes to wash all of the sand out of her hair. It was a very fun way to spend our Independence Day!
