Trip to Huber's Farm and IKEA
This weekend we enjoyed a visit from my mom (aka Julianne's Mimi). On Friday we went to Huber's Farm and picked pumpkins and apples. Picking pumpkins was a little muddy due to rain all night and morning, but neither Julianne or Shiloh seemed bothered by getting a little muddy. Both girls loved picking apples and helped so much that we ended up buying 13.5 lbs of apples. Julianne just wanted to eat the apples right off the tree so it was hard convincing her that we needed to buy it first, wash it, and then she could devour it.
Playing Outside
The weather has been beautiful here in Kentucky so we've been spending a lot of time outside. In the past two days we've taken a trip to a nearby playground and to the zoo. Both outings were done with Julianne's friend, Shiloh. It's so fun to watch the girls mature and develop together. Although they have squabbles over toys, they love to play with (or at least play in the same proximity as) each other. They are both very concerned about what the other one is doing and their new favorite game is Ring Around the Rosie.
School
I have sensed that Julianne would benefit from more structure in her day, so we have begun "school" two days a week. We just finished our fourth week of school and the past four weeks Julianne has been learning that God created everything. Her memory verse for Honeybees (the two year old program for AWANA) has been Genesis 1:1. The shortened version that she has learned is "God created the heavens and the earth." You can hear her say this verse in a previous post. We based two themes off of this verse: The Sky and The Ocean.
Labor Day Fun
Julianne and I were so happy to have Stephen home yesterday for Labor Day. We (meaning mostly Stephen) put up some new shelves in Julianne and Baby Girl #2's closet in order to make room for more storage space. For lunch we went to Chick fil A for free chicken sandwiches. We wore Mizzou shirts and got free chicken. What could be better? We then took our yummy lunch to the park and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Stephen spent the rest of the day reading for school and after a good nap, Julianne and I played outside. It was a fun day!
Big Girl Bed
I was so anxious about transitioning Julianne from her crib to the toddler bed, but she has done a wonderful job acclimating to this change. The day before she turned two she took her first nap in her new toddler bed (Thank you Mimi(Grandma Bryant) for the bed and thank you Cha-Cha(Great-Grandma Northrip) for the mattress). We wanted to try it out for nap time first and then work on sleeping in the bed during the night.
The Kentucky State Fair
On Sunday we had the opportunity to go to the state fair. In the four years we've lived in Louisville this is the first year we've gone to the fair. Julianne loved getting to see all of the animals on display. We saw cows, goats, rabbits, pigeons, chickens, ducks, and a couple of horses. After that we enjoyed the delicacies of fair food. We had roasted corn and a funnel cake. Yum! Julianne was fighting a cold and hadn't been sleeping well, so she actually fell asleep at about 6:30 p.m. in the stroller while walking to the car. All in all, it was fun family time!
Julianne - Two Years Old
Julianne is officially two years old, as of Monday. The two's are off to a terrific and terrible start. Really, the terrific aspects outweigh the terrible parts, but Julianne is definitely learning to assert her own independent little will more now. She, as with most other toddlers, struggles to share any of what she deems as her possessions (which is pretty much everything that she can get her hands on). When she faces a challenge, she often reverts to crying, yelling, and hitting, but we're really working on reminding her to use her words in these circumstances.

Julianne's 2nd Birthday Party
This year Julianne had a monkey themed birthday party. She loves monkeys and has recently switched to calling them "meh-mee"'s instead of "ah-ah"'s (for the sound they make). Julianne's Mimi(Grandma Bryant), Gigi(Grandma Mobley), Papa(Grandpa Mobley), Uncle Jason, and Aunt Laura all made the trip to Louisville to celebrate with us. We also invited some of Julianne's friends. The kids (and some adults) played in our front yard for the first hour and a half of the party. Our generous neighbor allowed us to use her inflatable bouncy, so the kids had a great time jumping around.
