First Solo Trip to St. Louis

Last weekend as we left Wisconsin, Julianne rode home with Mimi and Uncle Andy to spend a week in St. Louis with them. She had a great time and didn't seem to miss us at all. Whenever we talked with her on the phone or on skype she would politely answer our questions and then would say "I'm all done" and would either place the phone on the nearest surface or give the phone back to Mimi, who would then at least try to get her to tell us good-bye and that she loved us. During the week Mimi and Uncle Andy kept Julianne busy with lots of fun activities.

Cow Appreciation Day 2010

Today was Cow Appreciation Day at Chick Fil A and since we are huge Chick Fil A fans we put on our cow costumes and headed to get our free chicken. Lorelei was the cutest baby cow at the restaurant and loved watching all the people, especially the kids who were running around. In honor of this day, Lorelei decided to finally cut her first tooth after about three and a half months of drooling. It was a very exciting day!

Lorelei - 6 Months

I'm amazed that my sweet baby is half way to her first birthday. Time flies when you're having fun and we are having so much fun with Lorelei. Today we went to the pediatrician for her six month appointment and everything looked great. Here are her stats: Length - 26.25in(75th percentile), Weight - 17lbs 15.8oz(90th percentile), Head Circumference - 16.7in(50th percentile). As you can tell she is one healthy little girl and is a much larger baby than her sister ever was.

"Bay-cation" - Part 2

On Wednesday we went to the beach in Peninsula State Park. The water was pretty chilly but Julianne didn't seem to mind. She walked all the way out in the water and then came back on the beach to play in the sand. Great Aunt Shelley was the best playmate and lovingly made sandcastle after sandcastle only to be demolished by Julianne. Lorelei, on the other hand, was not as tolerant of the cool water and only got in for a short time. She did enjoy playing with the sand, but just kept trying to put fistfuls in her mouth, so we quickly put an end to this activity.

"Bay-cation"- Part 1

Last week we were blessed tremendously with a "bay-cation" (how Julianne says "vacation") up to Door County, Wisconsin. Door County is a peninsula that is sandwiched between Green Bay and Lake Michigan. To split up the 10 hour drive on the way there we stopped in Chicago, IL and stayed with our good friend, Jocelyn. During our short stay, we went to Cosley Zoo and experienced Chicago-style hot dogs from a man who was selling them from a hot dog cart(this has been a dream of mine for quite a while).

Father's Day Weekend

This past weekend we had some special visitors. Papa and Gigi (Stephen's parents) came from St. Louis to spend the weekend with us. On Saturday the men worked on continuing to frame the basement, then we enjoyed twenty-five cent scoop day at the Homemade Pie and Ice Cream Kitchen. On Sunday we went to church then enjoyed a delicious lunch at Mark's Feed Store. Julianne and Lorelei (and their parents) enjoyed getting to spend time with Papa and Gigi. Here are some pictures of our weekend.

Cereal and Sitting

Lorelei will be six months in one week and had her first taste of cereal yesterday. For the past several weeks she has been interested in watching us eat and has started lunging for our plates and cups when she's near enough. So we finally gave in to starting her on solids and she loved it. Julianne actually got to give her the first several bites and did a really good job helping. Papa and Gigi even got to give some bites too. Lorelei has also improved her form while sitting. She is much steadier and can sit for longer periods of time. Here are some pictures of our sweet girl.

Julianne's June

I'm not exactly sure where June has gone, but there is only about a week more of it and then we'll be in July. Julianne is creeping closer and closer toward her third birthday, although she has recently forgotten (selective memory?) how old she is. When asked she'll say, "Two more months" or "four more months". She could be referring to how many months until her birthday, but I'm not so sure about this. She genuinely acts like she doesn't know that she's two years old. Maybe we need to work on answering simple questions rather than letter sounds and touch counting.

Memorial Weekend 2010

We had a great Memorial weekend and enjoyed spending three whole days with Stephen. On Saturday we braved the crowds and the heat and went to the zoo (not something we would have chosen to do on our own, but Julianne had earned this reward by being quiet at night since she is now in the same room as her little sister). That evening we began work on finishing our basement; two walls are now framed. On Sunday evening my mom and brother came in town for another visit and we enjoyed time with them until today (Thursday). For Memorial Day Stephen and some other guy friends went frisbee golfing.

Out of the mouth of Julianne

Julianne's speech continues to be difficult to decipher at times, but that doesn't stop her from talking. Here are some Julianne-isms from the past several months.

"Mimi took me on an adventure to five mans." - Translation "Five Guys"

"I just bringed one bandaids and two bandaids down."

"Mama, please don't write an M."

"I and Shiloh are going to the princess castle. See you later."

"I might be lonely." - Whenever we leave the room, she says this.

Julianne on naptime: "I'm not quite ready for a nap.", "Maybe I'm not sleepy.", "I just don't think I need a nap today."
